SPRING IS HERE!, and as Summer approaches, a real fire is still priceless. If you’re planning a real fire but aren’t sure if the chimney is clear before you light up, you may need a chimney sweep. Chimneys used frequently need to be swept annually to make sure soot and obstructions such as birds nests are removed.
The National Association of Chimney Sweeps Recommends that chimney sweeping should take place at least once a year. You may think you only need to call a chimney sweep when a chimney is blocked but there are other reasons such as:
• Carbon monoxide poisoning – Without question the main reason to have your chimney swept. Unfortunately we hear of incidents of Carbon monoxide poisoning, mainly due to birds nests.
• Efficiency – Chimneys swept on a regular basis are more efficient.
• Soot fall – How often do you hear of rooms being damaged due to a build up of soot in the chimney? Soot builds up over a period of time and with rain and wind will often fall down leaving you with a room covered in soot.
